With the ever increasing environmental focus and the rising cost of disposal, Sludge Oil has become a major concern for the shipping community.

To date the aim of sludge handling has been simply to get rid of it, either by landing it or by burning it in burners or incinerators. Treatment in traditional separators is a possibility, but the resulting service and operation cost most often render this option unviable.

By employing a VARIMAX decanter it is possible to turn sludge oil from a liability to an asset by permitting reuse of up to 96% of the oil component of the sludge.
Since the decanter is self cleaning and requires a minimum of service and maintenance the cost of operation is insignificant compared to the value of recycled fuel oil, which can be used either for heating purposes or for power generation.

VARIMAX Decanter centrifuges - a novel, but proven solution
The VARIMAX decanter centrifuges are specially designed and adapted to marine use in connection with the removal of solid matter from sludge.
A central feature in the design of the decanter is the spring mounted main bearing system, that permits super critical speed of the decanter bowl. Super critical operation ensures that any unbalanced force will disappear before it reaches the main frame, resulting in operation without vibration and noise and with minimal loading of the bearings.
